01The story
An AI-generated mockup of a long cutting slip on a dark wooden bench beside scissors and maroon cloth. It has the Mahila Fabrics name and the woman at the top, lines for client, date and the metres of blouse, sleeve, pallu and lining, and a ruler printed down its right edge.
A cutting slip with its own ruler.

Tracing first. Then fabric.

Mahila began as embroidery and tracing work, done by one family from their home in Ramkoti, Hyderabad. Then it grew, one step at a time.

  1. 1978A 200 sq ft store
  2. 2012Fabric by the metre
  3. 2022Dyeing and finishing
  4. 2024A second store, Banjara Hills

Still the step before the needle.

02The reason
An AI-generated mockup of two maroon paper shopping bags on a shop counter. One carries the महिला Fabrics name in cream and the other carries the woman in a pink saree among large pink peonies.
The name on one bag. The face on the other.

Two faces, one shop.

The shop sign has a gold crest. Instagram has a woman in a pink saree, which I made for them. Side by side, they look like two different shops.

So the rebrand keeps the face people already know, and gives the name one finished mark that works everywhere, from a 16 px icon to the shop board.

04The mark
An AI-generated mockup of an open bill book with the महिला Fabrics name and address at the top and a table for description, quantity, rate and amount, while a hand presses a round maroon stamp with the woman in it.
The bill book and its stamp.

One letter. One ring.

The मThe first letter of महिला, cut from the same lettering. It still reads at 16 px, so it can be the Instagram picture and the browser tab.
The seal: MAHILA and FABRICS in a ring around the letter म, inside a ring of dots
The sealThe name in a ring around the म, in one ink, for stamps, tags and receipts. Its dots are a pounce line, the pricked pattern that traces embroidery onto cloth, a nod to the tracing work Mahila started with.
05The colours

Five colours, all taken from her.

Each one is measured off the illustration, so the brand and the art can never drift apart. On this page the headings are maroon and every word you read is kajal, as the brand’s own rule says.

  • Ramkoti Maroon#6D2320The ground. Ramkoti is where Mahila began.
  • Malle Cream#F2D8B4The lettering. Malle is jasmine in Telugu, the flowers in her hair.
  • Gulabi Rose#C57058The peonies and her saree. For patterns, never for words.
  • Zari Gold#B9864BHer jewellery and the zari border. Printed as foil, never flat ink.
  • Kajal#3C251BHer hair, the darkest colour. Every word you read.

Each circle looks at the spot in the art its colour was measured from.

What are you making?

Their new line, and the first question a good fabric counter asks. The rebrand is still in progress, and nothing here is signed off by Mahila yet.
